Start-ups love Beijing, can't stand the bad air

Good example to show how the economic report card of a country is also tied to its environmental report card....The severe smog problem in Beijing has made it increasingly less attractive in attracting and retaining talent in the city, and is also causing some companies to relocate elsewhere...obviously tourism can also be affected....
Ccompare with the haze problem plaguing Singapore.

Given this, environmental concerns have now become a political priority for Beijing....see related article here: china-to-invest-520b-in-clean-fuel
China will plough 2.5 trillion yuan (S$520.5 billion) into renewable power generation by 2020, the country's energy agency said yesterday, as the world's largest energy market continues to shift away from dirty coal power towards cleaner fuels

For the long-term sustainability of the economy, it may be that environmental concerns cannot be sidelined...think 'symbiotic relationship' and the goose-that-lays-the-golden-eggs analogy....

Qn: Environmental concerns and economic growth cannot co-exist. Do you agree? (Cam. 2011)
